Outcome Analysis of Local Flaps Reconstruction after Excision of Basal Cell Carcinoma of the Face: Single Institutional Experience of Forty Cases

چکیده

Introduction e most common malignant tumours of the face are (BCC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and melanoma. [1] BCC constitutes more than three quarters of skin cancers of the face [2] .Risk factors for BCC include sun exposure, fair skin type, ionising radiation, advanced age, immunosuppression [3] BCCs of the face are almost always curable when detected and treated early, [4] various treatment options are available for reconstruction after excision of tumour of the face from skin graft to local or distant flaps for resurfacing of defect. While the results of skin graft are less than satisfactory for large areas to cover, distant flaps are bulky with a poor colour match. Skin grafts takes several weeks to stabilise and match with the recipient site. Contracture may develop in the longterm follow-up. [5] Local flaps provide reasonable option for reconstruction of facial defects with good colour and texture match and good success rate.

Surgical Excision with Forehead Flap as Single Modality Treatment for Basal Cell Cancer of Central Face: Single Institutional Experience of 50 Cases

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common skin cancer worldwide. The WHO has defined it as "a locally invasive, slowly spreading tumor which rarely metastasizes, arising in the epidermis or hair follicles and in which the peripheral cells usually simulate the basal cells of the epidermis." Here we discuss the management of BCCs of central face with surgical excision and reconstruction with ...

Survival and aesthetic outcome of local flaps used for reconstruction of face defects after excision of skin malignancies: Multi-institutional experience of 175 cases

Background: Local facial flaps are frequently used reconstructive option and are carrying very good outcome as regard matching, texture, and less scarring. This study was designed retrospectively to evaluate the flap survival and aesthetic outcome of the three commonly used local facial flaps. Material and methods: Retrospective analysis of 175 patients whom were managed by local fasciocutanous...

Perforator Flaps for Reconstruction of Lower Limb Defects

BACKGROUND Reconstruction of soft tissue defects in the lower third of the leg remains challenging. Anatomical constraints limit the local options available for complex defects especially lower third of leg. Local flaps based on perforator vessels are raising interest in reconstructive surgery of the limbs. We present our experience with perforator flaps for reconstruction of soft tissue def...

Incidence of incomplete excision in surgically treated basal cell carcinomas and identification of the related risk factors

Background: Surgery is the most frequent treatment modality for basal cell carcinoma but in spite of its high cure rate, the frequency of incomplete excision varies widely (0.7-50%) among dermatologic centers. Our case series was designed to determine the frequency of incompletely excised basal cell carcinoma and the related risk factors. Methods: A total of 1424 basal cell carcinoma (1040 pati...
